Fires of Transformation … and the greatest of these is Love – by Maureen Wild

The Gabriola Ecumenical Society has recently launched this new theme for their 2016-2017 Programs.

On Sunday, Sept 11th, forty Gabriolans gathered at The Roxy and reflected on qualities of love expressed in various phrases of 1 Cor. 13. Shelagh Houston and Pandit Tejomaya facilitated this unique experience. [After all, when do we ever sit down with one another in a public forum and talk about this profound energy that is so vital in our lives and relationships.]

Inspired by the words articulated, Tejomaya created a poem ‘Love Manifesto for Gabriola.’ It can be viewed at www.gabriolaecumenical.com. The wordle below also captures qualities that were expressed.

We hope you consider coming out to one or more of our monthly programs. The next one is titled ‘Music and Poetry on Love’ with recitations and music by Allannah Dow and Leah Hokanson, on Saturday, Oct 22, at 1:00pm at The Roxy. Sorry it’s not a little later in the day but that’s the time that worked for our musicians. Perhaps go out for brunch or lunch with a dear friend that day, and bring them to this after! Find a way to come and enjoy a very special event and share it with others. Everyone is welcome – of all ages!

In early November watch for a news release that will highlight the Nov 13th program, ‘Loving Presence in Tough Times.’ This is shaping up to be an extraordinary Sunday afternoon event (at the Netloft) of personal stories from Gabriolans along with a beautiful ceremony to honour and remember ones whom we have loved and lost.

‘Caroling with Care’ is our traditional event for December, a festive occasion to go to homes and sing carols for seniors, caregivers and those who are housebound. Come spread a little love around through song and warm presence to others! Songsters meet at The Garden Homes at 5:30pm on Thurs. Dec 1, where we’ll begin the singing and carry on in a car pool. Song sheets will be provided as well as a little refreshment at the last stop. We’ll keep you posted for what’s coming in 2017! The GES website is a great resource with ongoing updates.
