GES Founding Directors – January 2004

2024 marks the 20th anniversary of the Gabriola Ecumenical Society (GES), a vibrant community dedicated to exploring spirituality through diverse programs, musical events, and annual gatherings.

In 2004, a group of spiritual seekers, driven by a shared sense of inclusiveness and community, embarked on a new journey. Trusting in Spirit and fueled by the desire to continue their spiritual exploration in a atmosphere inclusivity, the Gabriola Ecumenical Society was born.

The original eight founding directors – Imelda Cuthbertson, Lynn Holden, Shelagh Huston, Del McCarthy, Alex McConnell, Anne Sims, and Vic Weibe – gathered in January 2004, seeking a new vision, a spiritual path without borders, and a new sense of belonging in community. With no roadmap to follow, trusting in Spirit, GES embraced the unknown.

Since its inception, GES has encouraged the freedom to explore spirituality in various forms, seeking common threads among different faith traditions, different forms of spirituality and the intersection of science and spirituality.

Two decades later, with spirit flowing freely and moving in mysterious ways, Spirit continues to guide Gabriola Ecumenical Society. Embracing spiritual questing, GES addresses contemporary challenges with imagination, creativity, and profound respect for all creation.
As we celebrate this milestone, let us work together to promote peace and unity in our troubled world. Join us in continuing the journey of spiritual exploration and fostering a sense of community and inclusiveness.
