Passover begins on the evening of April 15. We would like to gather together for a Community Seder dinner in honour of the Jewish Passover Festival at the Gabriola Golf Club on Tuesday April 19 from 4 to 7 pm.
We invite all who are interested to join us at the Golf Club for Seder. Seder in Hebrew means ‘order’. The rituals and the practices are all about ‘order’. We eat specific foods at Seder and have ceremony that also follows an order. That means that all people sharing seder are eating the same ceremonial foods and sharing the same prayers and stories all over the world in the same order, and have been doing so for hundreds of years! This tradition has enriched the lives of Jewish families both observant and otherwise for generations, which only adds to the magic of Passover.
Passover is a celebration of the exodus of the Israelites from slavery in Egypt, the 40 years of wandering in the desert, and the final entrance into Israel. Whether the facts of the story are true or not, we look for meaning in the concepts behind the story, and interpret it in a way that makes sense to us today. So for example, we ask ourselves how have we been enslaved, and how do we find freedom in our lives? The most important “mitzvah” or commandment in the honouring of Passover is to tell the story of our emancipation from slavery and deliverance to freedom. That’s the purpose of Seder!
Please register early so we have a good idea of numbers. We have 40 seats for the event and it has historically sold out. We hope you can join us for an evening of Seder!
$25.00 per person – includes ceremony, dinner, and wine.
