Sacred Pathways to Earth Healing: From Cosmic Grace and Guidance to Community and Personal Choice

April 22, 2023

Apr 22, 2023
3:00 pm - 4:15 pm
Gabriola Arts and Heritage Centre

We walk the pathway being forged for all humanity: for the healing of our own human spirit, and “the healing of Earth as an essential way of life” (Pope Francis), while also fostering our innate vocation to genuine friendship and solidarity with all persons. Within a sacred universe context, and within such chaotic times as ours, this program highlights a few creative ecological and cultural responses from Gabriola to Central America. The talk will draw from some challenging writings of Naomi Klein and from teachings of Thomas Berry regarding the depth of healing needed in moving into an Ecological Age. It will also give some focus to the UN Sustainability Goals related to Climate Action, and Water/Sanitation.

Presenter:

Maureen Wild, SC, MEd, speaker and retreat guide on Earth-centered themes celebrated within persons such as Hildegard of Bingen, Francis of Assisi, Teilhard, Thomas Berry, and seen through the eyes of ‘Earth as a sacred community,’ and the universe story as our sacred story.  She serves on a Water Project Committee of the Sisters of Charity who work in a collaborative humanitarian effort to bring potable water and improved sanitation projects to rural poor communities in El Salvador. On Gabriola, Maureen often serves at the monthly seniors luncheons, she gardens at the Commons community plots, and assists on the Gabriola Island Memorial Society Board of Directors. She enjoys walking with her dog, Tilli, at Twin Beaches, Elder Cedar, Drumbeg and other beautiful Gabriola places. She is featured in the book Green Sisters – a Spiritual Ecology (Harvard University Press, 2007) and has written a children’s book (2018), The Story of Lexi, and a Dream that Follows Her – a true Gabriola story of love, loss, and presence that lives on.
