Spirit Flows Through Poetry and Music

A Gabriola Ecumenical Society program to nourish our spirit … come if you can, bring a friend or two & spread the word!

For the Gabriola Ecumenical Society’s events planned for 2018-2019, Spirit Flows Freely is the theme.  On Sunday, November 25,  that theme will certainly be an apt one.

Leanne McIntosh, poet, will read from her book, Dark Matter.

It will be a dialogue with musicians Carolyn Bell (keyboard) and Jacqui Parker-Snedker (bass).  Carolyn and Jacqui’s musical improvisations will be a response to the poems.

Dark Matter was influenced by the writings of Father Jack Sproule, well known to some on Gabriola and to others as a former Pastor at St. Peter’s, Nanaimo.

Where do poems come from?  How do words emerge from “the dark matter” of the creative process?  Similarly, for the musicians, what words speak to them and are given musical expression?  These questions will be explored in a conversation between the poet, the musicians and the audience.

As November settles in, the days get shorter, and weather brings cloud and rain.  It’s a time for introspection and reflection.

Come to the Netloft next Sunday afternoon (Nov 25) and experience poetry that speaks to the heart, and music that uplifts the soul.

Suggested Donation $10.

All are welcome!  Doors open at 2:30.  Come early … bring slippers, and enjoy the warmth and sacred space of the Netloft on Degnen Bay!
